Finding Your Vision and Purpose in Life
Part of life essence is having purpose, a sense of mission and values. To know “this is my task”, to know it in your heart and soul, and to then act in some way in that purpose and mission, and look at what you did and how you feel and know that “this is what I did today!” and enjoy that feeling of reward that comes with it.
When you don’t know your mission, your purpose, you become weak. There is no life essence nourishing you day to day, and you succumb to just going through the motions, going to your job, get the work done, go home, watch tv, zone out on the phone, and just kind of vegetate.
When you know your mission and purpose, you can’t be kept from it! You are driven by what you do, and if friends and family see you and are able to spend time with you, they are grateful! If they are in their purpose, they understand that, and encourage it. If they are not understanding and encouraging, they have not found their purpose and mission and are going through the motions living a life without essence, purpose and mission.
You do NOT need to sacrifice your purpose and mission because other’s have not found theirs and expect you to “go through the motions” with them. You can forgive them for not understanding and reaffirm to yourself that you are doing what you are here for.
One exercise to help you figure out what you mission your value, or purpose, if you don’t already know, is remove all the aspects of comfort from your life, and whenever you are not having to work or interact with your children, spouse, etc, the time that you would spend watching tv, reading a book, playing on your phone, or doing things that fill time: Sit.
Sit there and think: What is my mission? What is my purpose? Why am I here? What am I supposed to be doing? If you sit there long enough the answers will come to you. In the beginning, in the first days or even hours, you may think “I can’t be doing this! I have to get up and DO something! It will feel uncomfortable. Just sit there with it, allow yourself to feel how painful it really is to not know your purpose and mission, and how often you cover it up with anything that occupies your mind and energies. (or maybe you eat to hide this discomfort?)
Your mission, your purpose and values, are found within you and will vitalize you in a way that nothing else can. Too long we have been searching for things outside ourselves to give us life essence to nourish us: the newest relationship, new toys, clothes, hobbies, friends, social media, all forms of entertainment, etc. Those things, they excite us, but we soon find that they do not nourish us and we look again for something else outside ourself. Start with the wisdom from multiple writings of faith: “Be still, and know that I am God.”
Take the time, however long it takes, and let this process work for you, and things will start coming to you. When they start coming to you, get up and do those tasks immediately, and feel the energy get infused back into your body. Too many of us are just going through the motions and it’s time to find your value, your purpose, your mission!! To be energized and excited by moving forward with that, to find that within and start living the life you were always meant to live.
